Watching on Mobile Devices (Completely Free)

The NFL has opened up mobile streaming to all cell phone providers via the Yahoo! Sports and NFL mobile apps. These streaming options are completely free to anyone, without the need of any cable service. Both apps live stream every Sunday Night Football game.

There are restrictions however - you can only watch the games from your mobile device (no sending the feed to your TV) and for some NFL Network exclusive games you have to use your cell data as wifi will be disabled. So keep that in mind if you don’t have unlimited data.

Watching on NBC Streaming Links and Apps

Sunday Night Football games can be streamed live from the NBC Sports website or from the NBC app. You will be required to login with your cable credentials for access. The NBC app’s page also provides downloads for several supported devices and platforms.

Listening to Games on Live Radio

Sunday Night Football games can also be listened to live on SiriusXM, TuneIn, NFL Game Pass or on local radio stations in the local markets of the teams playing, with play-by-play coverage produced by Westwood One.

Westwood One is one of the largest audio networks out there, broadcasting on terrestrial (local, over-the-air) radio. Gaining access to their live NFL coverage is completely free and they cover every Sunday Night Football game and broadcast that play-by-play audio in the local sports radio markets of the teams playing as well as select radio stations nationwide (blackouts and restrictions do apply, in most cases the broadcast is not available for free online streaming, only over-the-air local radio).

NFL on Westwood One Sports is hosted by Westwood One and therefore is not the nationally televised audio feed but instead announced by Westwood One commentators.

SiriusXM is a satellite and internet radio subscription service. They have options for streaming radio stations more traditionally in your car and/or on most any internet-connected mobile device, for a monthly fee. Use this schedule to see what station is airing any given SNF game.

TuneIn is also one of the world’s largest internet audio networks. With this option you’ll be able to hear the Westwood One coverage of every Sunday Night Football game. Subscription to this service is required.

NFL Game Pass is an on demand video service from the NFL that allows you to watch any and every NFL game of the season shortly after each game concludes. While the video portion of this service is not live, the radio option is. NFL Game Pass offers live Westwood One audio for every Sunday Night Football game.

NFL’s Flexible Schedule for Sunday Night Football Games

The NFL uses a flexible schedule for Sunday Night Football games to ensure quality primetime matchups and to give surprise teams the chance to play their way onto the big stage. Toward the end of the season, flexible scheduling is also used to air games with playoff implications.

Flexible scheduling begins in Week 5 and runs through the end of the regular season. Any game scheduled for Sunday afternoon can be moved to the Sunday night slot. (Thursday, Saturday and Monday night games cannot be moved to Sunday night.)

The league is required to give no less than 12 days notice of a schedule change between weeks 5-16, but this requirement is lowered to 6 days for Week 17 to ensure the final SNF game has playoff implications.

And finally only two games max can be moved to Sunday night between weeks 5-10.

Exceptions to SNF Airing on Sunday Nights

The NFL Kickoff Game is one of only two SNF games that won’t air on a Sunday night. This game marks the beginning of the NFL season and airs on a Thursday night under the ‘Sunday Night Football’ brand. The kickoff game historically airs the Thursday following Labor Day.

The Thanksgiving night NFL game is the other exception. This prime-time holiday matchup airs on the night of Thanksgiving, which always falls on the fourth Thursday every November.

NBC has exclusive rights to both the NFL Kickoff Game and the Thanksgiving night game. Both games have the same start time of 8:20pm EST and use the same announcer team.

There will also be no SNF game for the final week of the regular season, week 17.
