Notre Dame Football on NBC
NBC has aired every home game of the Fighting Irish since 1991, an exclusivity unique to not only college football but all of sports. Mike Tirico is the play-by-play announcer, Tony Dungy brings color commentary, and Karthryn Tappen is the sideline reporter for Notre Dame Football on NBC.
Notre Dame games on NBC typically air in the afternoon, with a few prime-time evening games each season, if the schedule of NBC allows. There have been a few Notre Dame games airing on NBCSN instead, but this is rare and only if there are unavoidable scheduling conflicts on the main NBC channel. And if scheduling is really thrown for a loop, Notre Dame home games can alternatively air on USA Network, another sister station of NBC.
NBC is a local station you can get for free with a digital antenna. Otherwise the channel is included in just about every cable provider's plan as part of the local TV channel lineup. The table below shows all the cable providers carrying NBC, NBCSN and USA Network, including live stream links and the app for streaming on-the-go.
Watch Notre Dame Away Games
Every home game for the Fighting Irish airs on NBC channels. But for the away games that will come down to the other team's TV contracts. Notre Dame away games can air on -- ESPN, ABC, CBS or FOX networks.
Fighting Irish On ESPN Channels, ESPN+, ABC
ESPN airs college football games on a number of different channels -- ESPN, ESPN2, ESPN3, ESPNU, ESPNU and their sister station ABC. If Notre Dame plays an away game vs Texas, that game could even air on Longhorn Network, a channel partially owned by ESPN.
For games not airing on TV but still under the broadcast rights of ESPN, those games will likely air on their standalone subscription service ESPN+. This service costs $5.99/month or $49.99/yr and provides hundreds of live college games for both football and basketball, along with pro sports and tons of on demand content.
And this table includes links to every cable, satellite and internet TV provider that carries these networks. And once you have a cable package that includes them, live stream the channels all from the same WatchESPN website or ESPN app, once you login. The ESPN app works with any iOS or Android device and fireTV, Chromecast, Roku, Samsung Smart TVs, Apple TV, Kindle Fire, androidtv, Playstation, Xbox and Oculus.
Notre Dame Football on CBS
If a Fighting Irish opponent is hosting a game that has broadcasting rights with CBS, that game will undoubtedly air on CBS, unless there are scheduling conflicts. You can watch CBS games live online for free from their website, get the channel for free with a digital antenna or watch on your TV through cable. If you get CBS via cable, you also get free access to their live streaming service CBS All Access at no additional cost. The CBS Sports app works on all iOS and Android mobile phones and tablets.
The Fighting Irish on FOX
And finally if a Notre Dame opponent has a broadcasting contract with FOX and also hosts that game (ie a Notre Dame away game) it's a good chance FOX will find a way to air that game.
They have many options -- the main FOX network, FS1 or any number of regional sports networks.
If they opt for FOX (which is most likely as Notre Dame is high profile) then you can watch those games completely for free via a digital antenna hooked up your television. Otherwise most cable plans include FOX in the local channels (but some do not, the table below shows which do for sure; that resource is always up-to-date).
FS1 is a cable network included in most basic or mid-tier plans, depending on the provider. And if a Notre Dame airs on a Fox Sports Regional Network, you'll need a cable plan that includes regional sports networks. A good number of plans do, but you'll either have to live in that TV market or get an additional sports bundle or a more expensive plan to access out-of-market regional networks owned and operated by FOX.
All FOX owned stations live stream through the same app and website; just sign in with your username and password to access. The Fox Sports app is available on all iOS and Android phones, Apple TV, Roku, XBox, Chromecast, fireTV and androidtv.
