How the Chargers Schedule Works

Every Chargers regular season schedule is split evenly with eight home games and eight games played on the road, with one bye week. Here’s how the schedule of opponents for any given season is determined for the Chargers:

- Chargers play each AFC West opponent twice (Chiefs, Raiders, Broncos)
- 4 games are played vs 4 non-divisional AFC teams (all from the same division)
- 4 games are played vs 4 teams from the NFC (all from the same division)
- 2 games are played vs 2 other AFC conference teams based on prior year’s standings

Games are ordered for any given season in a way that maximizes viewership for the NFL as a whole.
