Watch Big 12 Football Games

Big 12 football began in 1996 and currently consists of 10 schools (not to be confused with the Big Ten, which has 14). This conference is a part of the Power Five, alongside the ACC, Pac-12, SEC and Big 10, all known to be the most nationally competitive conferences in the NCAA, and therefore drawing the most TV coverage.

ESPN and Fox Sports split broadcasting rights for the biggest Big 12 match-ups, while ESPN has rights to lower tier games as well as all conference championships. NBC and CBS will air Big 12 football throughout the season too, but only away games if their opponent has a deal with either network. And then there's the Longhorn Network for Texas games, that is partially owned by ESPN that airs some Longhorn games exclusively. Breakdown of all that proceeds below.

ESPN, BIG 12 NOW on ESPN+ and ABC

ESPN is the first place to look to watch Big 12 football. In this context ESPN is short for a family of networks -- ESPN but also ESPN2, ESPN3, ESPNU, ESPNews, Longhorn Network and ABC (it's local sister station). And that doesn't even cover ESPN+, which we'll get to.

ESPN does share exclusivity rights with Fox Sports for the biggest Big XII games, but they also get smaller market games and all the conference championship games. So by the numbers ESPN airs the most Big XII football. Look for the biggest games with the most implications to air on ESPN or ESPN2.

ESPN is cable channel that requires a subscription to cable plan of some kind in order to watch live on your TV or stream. You can go with traditional cable, satellite TV or any number of cord-cutting, internet TV options; they all offer ESPN in most every base plan, and ESPN2 and the other networks typically come standard in most every mid-tier plan or higher. Use the table below to see all the plans and prices that carry every ESPN network.

Longhorn Network & ESPN+

Longhorn Network will be included in most cable plans that include regional sports networks, if you live in the Texas TV market. This channel can also be purchased out-of-market with an additional sports bundle from most cable providers.

And ESPN+ is a standalone streaming service offered by ESPN. They air college games and events that don't make it onto their national TV channels. For football there's a dedicated section called 'BIG 12 NOW' that shows every Big 12 football (and basketball) game ESPN+ airs. The service is $5.99/month or $49.99/yr, with a bonus of getting to watch games on demand, after they air live.

*ABC is a local channel, coming standard with most cable plans as part of your local TV lineup. But you can also get ABC locally for free by hooking up a digital antenna to your television if you live close enough to the tower, typically within the 15-60 mile range.

Big XII Football on FOX, FS1 & Regional Networks

FOX, Fox Sports 1 (FS1) and it's regional sports networks split time with ESPN airing all the biggest Big 12 football games. You'll need a cable plan that offers FS1 and Fox Sports Regional Networks in order to watch these games, unless the games air on the national FOX channel (which is a local channel you can get for free with digital antenna or that comes included in most basic cable plans).

Fox Sports Regional Networks & FS1

For the regional sports networks, most mid-tier and above cable plans offer some regional sports channels, but FOX is known to have contractual issues with many providers. So use the table below to see exactly which providers and plans carry these regional channels; it can change any given month. And regional channels typically limit access to those viewing in that region -- for example Fox Sports Oklahoma for Sooners games only airs in the Oklahoma TV market. But good news is if you're willing to get a more expensive cable plan or an additional sports package, you can access to every Fox Sports Regional Network, no matter where you live.

And FS1 requires a cable plan to watch - use the table below to see all the plans that carry FS1.

The main FOX channel, FS1 and the FOX Sports Regional Networks all live stream through the same app and website portal; just authenticate with your cable provider username and password for access. The Fox Sports app is available on all iOS and Android phones, Apple TV, Roku, XBox, Chromecast, fireTV and androidtv.

Big XII Games on NBC

NBC broadcasts some away games featuring Big XII teams, which can include sister station NBCSN. Basically anytime a Big 12 team plays an opponent in an away game that has a network contract with NBC, look for that game to air there.

NBC is a local channel you can get for free with a digital antenna. Otherwise NBC is included in most all cable plans that include local channels. And NBCSN requires a cable plan of some kind to watch; typically included in base plans or higher. Table below shows all plans that include NBC and NBCSN.

Big XII Football on CBS

Select Big 12 football airs live on your local CBS station. It's the same arrangement as with NBC -- if the opponent hosts (which would be away games for Big 12 teams) and that team or conference has a network deal with CBS, odds are good CBS will air that game.

Pro tip - you can watch these games completely for free locally on your TV with a digital antenna. Otherwise use CBS Live Access if you have a cable plan that includes CBS; just requires your cable username and password and comes included for free with any cable plan carrying CBS.

The CBS Sports app for live streaming works with all iOS and Android devices, Roku, Fire Stick, PlayStation 4, XBOX One, Chromecast and more.
